Srinagar 12 August :- Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid a visit to the ancient Shalimar Garden in Srinagar today to take an on-spot inspection of the restoration activities being undertaken under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the JSW Foundation.
While inspecting, Abdullah was keen to focus on the timely completion of the project without compromising on the heritage character of the monumental Mughal garden. He insisted on enhancing tourist facilities to make the experience better for tourists and locals. Emperor Jahangir constructed the Shalimar Bagh in 1619, and it is one of Kashmir’s most important historical sites and a top tourist destination.
Abdullah instructed the authorities concerned to preserve the originality of the site’s architectural and horticultural aspects while adding essential modern facilities. The restoration work, supported by the JSW Foundation, is meant to restore the garden’s original glory and enhance heritage tourism in the area. Officials who were part of Abdullah’s delegation assured that every endeavor is being put into following conservation standards and finishing work within the required time frame.
The visit reaffirms the Government’s resolve to protecting Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage and ensuring sustainable tourism development.
