Omar Abdullah Outlines Major Heritage Restoration Plans for Parihaspora and Pattan

SRINAGAR, February 4, 2026 — Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today briefed the Legislative Assembly on the government’s comprehensive roadmap for the revival, restoration, and conservation of the region’s iconic heritage sites.

Highlighting the cultural and historical significance of the Kashmir Valley’s ancient architecture, the Chief Minister confirmed that major preservation interventions are currently underway at the historic sites of Parihaspora, Pattan, and Tappar.

Addressing the house, the Chief Minister emphasized that these restoration efforts are being spearheaded by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

The initiative aims to protect these archaeological marvels from further decay while enhancing their potential as major cultural tourism hubs.

By focusing on Parihaspora—once the grand capital of the Karkota dynasty—and the medieval temples of Pattan, the administration seeks to bridge the gap between J&K’s storied past and its future economic development through heritage Tourism.
