JAMMU, February 13, 2026 – Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed profound grief today over the demise of two prominent political figures and former ministers, Qamar Ali Akhoon and Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah.
In a heartfelt condolence message, the Chief Minister paid tribute to their decades of public service, describing them as leaders who served the people of Jammu and Kashmir with unwavering honesty, dedication, and a deep-seated commitment to social welfare. He noted that their passing marks the end of an era for the regions they represented and for the state’s political landscape.
Extending his sympathies to the family of Qamar Ali Akhoon, a veteran leader from Kargil and former legislator from Ladakh, the Chief Minister recalled him as a “dedicated public figure” who remained humble throughout his extensive public life. Simultaneously, he honored the memory of Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad Shah, highlighting his significant contributions to the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
