Udhampur January 16, 2026 — In a significant move to bridge the digital divide in remote regions, the HQ Northern Command of the Indian Army has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Extramarks Education Foundation.
This strategic partnership is aimed at transforming the academic landscape for children from socio-economically disadvantaged groups who are currently enrolled in Army Goodwill Schools across the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
By integrating modern technology with traditional learning, the initiative seeks to provide high-quality, inclusive education to students in some of the country’s most challenging terrains.Under the terms of the agreement, the Extramarks Education Foundation will equip these schools with advanced Smart Classrooms and essential IT hardware.
This technological infusion is designed to make learning more interactive and engaging, ensuring that students in border areas have access to the same digital tools as those in metropolitan hubs.
Furthermore, the collaboration will see the launch of a specialized pilot project dedicated to coaching selected high-achieving students for various national-level competitive examinations. This targeted mentorship aims to empower local youth by creating viable pathways to professional careers and higher education.
This initiative underscores the Indian Army’s long-standing commitment to community development and “Winning Hearts and Minds” through its Operation Sadbhavana projects. By making education more tech-enabled and accessible, the Northern Command and Extramarks are not only improving literacy but also fostering a generation of tech-savvy leaders in the region.
The project is expected to significantly enhance the capacity of Army Goodwill Schools to deliver 21st-century education, reinforcing the foundation for long-term peace and prosperity in Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
