North Sikkim Connectivity Restored: MoS Defence Inaugurates Taram Chu Bridge and Strategic Lachen Road
GANGTOK, February 26, 2026 — Marking a monumental victory for infrastructure over adversity, the Honorable Minister of State for Defence, Shri Sanjay Seth, officially inaugurated the Taram Chu Bridge and the reconstructed Chungthang–Lachen road in North Sikkim today.
These critical lifelines, engineered by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), signify a new era of stability for a region that has faced unprecedented geological challenges over the last three years.
The inauguration serves as a strategic milestone, not only restoring local mobility but also bolstering the Indian Army’s logistical reach along the sensitive northern borders.
The reconstruction project follows a series of devastating natural disasters that struck North Sikkim during 2023, 2024, and 2025, repeatedly severing vital transport corridors.
Working under extreme weather conditions and through treacherous terrain, the BRO displayed relentless dedication to reconnecting isolated communities and military outposts. Dedicated to the people of North Sikkim, this new bridge and road network stands as a high-tech testament to the BRO’s “Connect, Create, and Conserve” ethos.
By prioritizing rapid developmental progress and resilient engineering, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that even the most remote frontiers remain integrated with the national mainstream.
