JAMMU | January 6, 2026:- In a significant move for medical education in the region, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has immediately withdrawn permission for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Medical College to operate its MBBS program.
This decision follows an investigation that uncovered serious violations of the minimum standards required for medical institutions. The NMC has categorized the college’s shortcomings as a direct breach of the 2023 regulations, leading to the immediate cancellation of the 50 seats previously approved for the 2025–26 academic session. As a punitive measure, the institution’s bank guarantee will also be forfeited.
NMC has assured current students that their academic careers will not be derailed. To protect their interests, all enrolled students will be transferred and adjusted into other recognized medical colleges across Jammu and Kashmir under supernumerary seats.
