New Helipad and Lounge Sanctioned for Mendhar to Boost Emergency Connectivity Near LoC

JAMMU, March 11, 2026 — In a major push for infrastructure development in the border regions of Jammu and Kashmir, the state government has sanctioned the construction of a dedicated helipad and waiting lounge at Qasab in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district.

Javed Ahmed Rana, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, expressed his profound gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for approving the project, which carries an estimated cost of ₹3.35 crore.

Representing the Mendhar Assembly constituency, Minister Rana highlighted that this initiative is a vital step toward strengthening critical infrastructure along the Line of Control (LoC), where the remote and hilly terrain often presents significant logistical hurdles.

The establishment of this facility is expected to be a game-changer for the local population, particularly in enhancing emergency response capabilities.

By facilitating swift aerial movement, the helipad will serve as a lifeline during medical emergencies, disaster management operations, and urgent administrative relief efforts in areas where road connectivity is frequently hampered by adverse weather.
