Navyug Tunnel Security Upgrade: Enhanced Surveillance and Safety Measures Ordered

SRINAGAR, December 29, 2025: In a major move to fortify the strategic Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Anayat Ali Chowdhary, has ordered a comprehensive security and safety overhaul of the Navyug Tunnel. Following a high-level joint review meeting involving the CRPF, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and jurisdictional police from Qazigund and Banihal, authorities have mandated round-the-clock surveillance, strict access control, and a heightened emergency response mechanism.

The review aimed to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of this vital link while integrating advanced inter-agency coordination to mitigate both security threats and safety hazards.Addressing a surge in recent road mishaps, officials specifically highlighted the dangers of overspeeding, urging commuters to strictly follow the 50 km/h speed limit inside the tunnel.

SSP Kulgam directed all stakeholders to adhere to revised Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contingency plans, emphasizing that effective communication is key to preventing accidents and ensuring public safety.

This directive follows the earlier deployment of cutting-edge technologies at the tunnel, including wall radar and thermal screening systems, further solidifying the Navyug Tunnel as one of the most monitored and secure transit points in the Union Territory.
