National Safe Motherhood Day Observed in Poonch: Focus on Maternal Health at Aspirational Block Mankote
POONCH, APRIL 11 — In a significant step toward improving regional healthcare outcomes, National Safe Motherhood Day was celebrated with great fervor at the Aspirational Block Mankote under the umbrella of the Sampoornata Abhiyan 2.0 initiative.
Organized under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma and the direct supervision of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, the event drew a large gathering of ASHA and Anganwadi workers alongside local community members.
A dedicated medical team, including Dr. Rajiv Sharma, Dr. Rabnawaz Khan, and Dr. Sultana Ajaz, provided comprehensive health screenings and Antenatal Care (ANC) services to expectant mothers, supported by Health Educator Mohd Yasin and Pharmacist Imtiaz Ahmed.
The program featured intensive awareness sessions designed to educate the public on vital maternal health schemes such as Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA).
Speakers underscored the critical necessity of regular antenatal check-ups, the benefits of institutional deliveries, and the adoption of safe motherhood practices to reduce maternal mortality. Coordinated by ABP Fellow Ajaz Ahmed, the event’s success was bolstered by the seamless convergence of the Health Department, ICDS, and NRLM.
This collaborative inter-departmental effort highlights the district’s commitment to strengthening maternal and child health infrastructure and ensuring a healthier future for the residents of Mankote.
