National Road Safety Month 2026 Launched at BSF Headquarters Paloura with High-Tech Focus

JAMMU, JANUARY 02, 2026 — The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir formally inaugurated National Road Safety Month 2026 this morning at the Border Security Force (BSF) Headquarters, Paloura. Organized under the global theme “Safety through Learning, Transformation through Technology,” the event aligns with the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety.

Secretary of the Transport Department, Avny Lavasa, attended as the Chief Guest, joined by senior BSF commandants and high-ranking officials from the Transport Department. The campaign emphasizes a collective social obligation to protect human life through disciplined road behavior and the integration of modern innovations like intelligent traffic systems and digital enforcement.

During the launch, the Transport Department reiterated its commitment to the “Four Pillars of Road Safety”: Education, Enforcement, Engineering, and Emergency Care. To demonstrate the importance of driver competence, the event featured on-the-spot driving license trial tests for approximately 50 BSF personnel, highlighting that a license serves as a certificate of societal trust.

The program also included a comprehensive technical presentation by Motor Vehicle Inspector Surinder Kumar, who used data-driven insights and video displays to illustrate major accident causes and preventive measures.

Following the inaugural ceremony at Paloura, the awareness campaign is set to expand across the entire Union Territory throughout the month. Officials used the platform to urge the public, particularly the youth, to lead by example by wearing helmets and seatbelts, respecting speed limits, and avoiding distractions.

The initiative aims to foster a transparent and secure environment where technology and awareness work in tandem to ensure safer journeys and a future free from preventable road tragedies.
