Mughal Road and SSG Road Update: Two-Way Traffic and Anti-Skid Chain Mandatory for Commuters

SRINAGAR January 12, 2026 — Traffic authorities have announced that movement on the high-altitude Mughal Road and Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) Road will be permitted on January 13, 2026, provided weather conditions remain favorable.

On the Mughal Road, light motor vehicles and private cars will be allowed to ply from both sides, connecting Poonch and Shopian, between the hours of 10:30 AM and 02:30 PM. Meanwhile, the SSG Road will facilitate one-way traffic specifically from Kargil toward Srinagar, with a movement window for LMVs and HMVs at Minamarg scheduled between 11:00 AM and 03:00 PM.

Due to the high risk of frozen road surfaces and slippery stretches, officials have made it mandatory for all motorists to carry and use anti-skid chains to maintain traction.

Commuters are strictly advised to adhere to the designated cut-off timings and verify road clearance from the respective Traffic Control Units in Srinagar, Jammu, and Kargil before beginning their journey to avoid being stranded in the high-altitude passes.
