Mizoram Security Update: Assam Rifles and Police Seize Lee Enfield Rifle and Ammunition in Aizawl

Aizawl, January 21, 2026: In a successful joint operation aimed at curbing illegal arms trade, the Assam Rifles, operating under the aegis of the Spear Corps, partnered with the Mizoram Police to recover a significant cache of weaponry in the Aizawl district.

During the operation conducted at Sakawrdai on Wednesday, security forces seized one Lee Enfield Bolt Action Rifle along with 72 live rounds of 0.303 ball (7.7 mm) ammunition. The prompt action by the joint team resulted in the apprehension of one individual suspected of being in possession of the illegal firearm.

The operation underscores the continued commitment of security forces to maintain peace and stability along the border regions of Northeast India. Following the seizure, the apprehended individual and the recovered arms and ammunition were handed over to the local police for further investigation and legal proceedings.

This crackdown is part of an ongoing effort to dismantle networks involved in the movement of unauthorized weapons, ensuring the safety of the civilian population in Mizoram.
