Ministry of Ports Confirms Safe Maritime Operations and Efficient Cargo Handling Amid Global Monitoring

NEW DELHI MARCH 18, 2026 — Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, confirmed today that all Indian maritime assets remain secure with no reported incidents across the network.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to seafarer welfare, the Ministry successfully facilitated the repatriation of 25 Indian nationals following their sign-offs at various ports within the last 24 hours.

To maintain seamless communication and emergency response, a dedicated 24×7 control room has been actively managing high volumes of coordination, successfully addressing 125 calls and approximately 450 emails to ensure operational continuity for stakeholders.

The Ministry further reported robust performance in energy and trade logistics, noting that LPG carriers Shivalik and Nanda Devi are currently discharging cargo as scheduled.

This operation is bolstered by an additional 2,500 sq. m. of specialized space at Visakhapatnam Port to ensure energy security. Nationwide, port congestion remains non-existent; notably, Mundra Port is operating efficiently at roughly 25% of its 4 lakh TEU capacity, with no delays reported in the handling of critical perishable cargo.

As the Ministry continues to monitor global shipping movements, these updates underscore India’s resilient maritime infrastructure and its proactive approach to maintaining steady international trade.
