Minister Sakeena Itoo Conducts Surprise Inspection of GMC Jammu; Emphasizes Compassion in Healthcare

Jammu, January 31, 2026: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, conducted a surprise inspection of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu today to evaluate the quality of healthcare delivery and patient-centric services.

During the visit, the Minister performed an extensive walkthrough of critical departments, including emergency wards, inpatient units, and diagnostic facilities. She focused on the availability of essential medicines, the functionality of medical equipment, cleanliness standards, and staff attendance.

Minister Itoo personally interacted with patients and their attendants to gather first-hand feedback on treatment quality and nursing care, assuring them that the government is actively working to bridge existing gaps in the healthcare infrastructure.

Addressing the medical fraternity, Minister Itoo stressed that public trust in government-run hospitals is fundamentally built on the conduct, empathy, and professionalism of doctors and paramedical staff.

She reminded the hospital administration that accountability is vital for maintaining high standards of patient care and dignity. To ensure long-term improvements, she directed the strengthening of grievance redressal mechanisms, allowing patient concerns to be resolved promptly.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrading medical facilities across the Union Territory, ensuring that quality healthcare reaches every corner of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Minister was accompanied during the inspection by the Principal of GMC Jammu, Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, along with the Medical Superintendents of GMC and the Super Speciality Hospital, among other senior administrative officials.
