Middle East Geopolitical Tensions: J&K Government Reviews Petroleum Stocks to Ensure Uninterrupted Fuel Supply
JAMMU, J&K – March 11, 2026: In response to the evolving geopolitical situation in the Middle East, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma, chaired a high-level review meeting on Wednesday to fortify the petroleum and LPG supply chain across Jammu and Kashmir.
Accompanied by Commissioner/Secretary Saurabh Bhagat and directors from both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions, the Minister engaged with top representatives from Indian Oil (IOC), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) to assess the Union Territory’s readiness against potential global supply disruptions. The comprehensive audit covered current stock levels, the operational capacity of fuel depots, and the efficiency of LPG bottling plants, with a specific focus on maintaining a seamless flow of petrol, diesel, and kerosene to consumers in every district.
During the deliberations, Minister Sharma underscored the strategic importance of maintaining substantial buffer stocks and directed officials to synchronize closely with oil marketing companies to bypass any emerging logistical hurdles. Emphasizing a “proactive planning” approach, he mandated the formulation of robust contingency plans to ensure timely replenishment of inventories should the international situation fluctuate further.
The Minister reassured the public that the government is maintaining a high state of vigilance, asserting that there is no cause for alarm as the administration is fully equipped to manage the region’s energy requirements despite external pressures.
To protect consumer interests during this period of heightened monitoring, the Minister also issued a strict directive to enforcement wings, including Legal Metrology and the department’s finance and distribution teams, to curb any attempts at hoarding or black marketing. He ordered an intensification of field
inspections at fuel stations and LPG outlets to prevent overcharging and ensure that quality standards are upheld. By combining strategic stockpiling with rigorous market oversight, the Jammu and Kashmir government aims to provide a stable environment for its citizens, ensuring that essential petroleum products remain readily available and affordably priced across the Union Territory.
