Massive Fire in Kishtwar’s Dachhan Area Gutted Houses and Shops; LPG Cylinder Blasts Trigger Panic

Kishtwar January 01, 2026:- A devastating fire broke out late New Year’s night in the remote Tachna village of the Dachhan area in Kishtwar district, causing widespread destruction of property.

According to initial reports, the blaze spread rapidly, engulfing and completely gutting at least six to seven residential houses and three shops. The situation escalated when at least two LPG cylinders exploded within the burning structures, sending shockwaves through the village and intensifying the flames. The explosions created a state of panic among local residents, who gathered at the site in a desperate attempt to salvage belongings and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent wooden structures common in the Marwah sub-division.

Upon receiving the information, Kishtwar Police personnel deployed in the Dachhan area rushed to the spot to assist in the rescue operations. The Fire and Emergency Services department dispatched vehicles and personnel from the district headquarters to the remote location to bring the inferno under control.

While the property damage is extensive, authorities have confirmed that no loss of life has been reported so far. Preliminary suspicions point toward a short circuit as the possible cause of the blaze, though a formal investigation by the administration is underway to determine the exact origin of the fire.

Relief and rescue efforts are ongoing as the community grapples with the aftermath of the disaster on the first day of the year.
