Massive Fire Guts NHPC Human Resources Office in Kishtwar; Investigation Launched

KISHTWAR, March 9, 2026 — A devastating fire broke out at the Human Resources (HR) department office building within the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) residential colony in Kishtwar on Sunday, resulting in extensive structural damage.

Local officials reported that the blaze erupted suddenly, quickly engulfing the administrative block and prompting an immediate emergency response. Fire and Emergency Services teams rushed to the site and launched a rigorous operation to contain the inferno.

While firefighters successfully brought the flames under control and prevented them from spreading to nearby residential quarters, the HR building was reportedly gutted in the incident.

The high-stakes emergency saw a coordinated response from multiple agencies, including personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), who manage security for the NHPC facilities, and the local police.

Teams from the Indian Red Cross Society also arrived on the scene to provide logistical support to the first responders. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported during the mishap.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of the Kishtwar Police Station is currently supervising the site as officials begin a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and evaluate the total financial and infrastructural losses incurred.
