Massive Fire Breaks Out at FCI Godown in Kulgam; CRPF Barrack Destroyed

KULGAM, April 7, 2026 — A major fire broke out on Tuesday within the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown complex at Mirbazar, located in the Qazigund area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The blaze, which erupted along the strategic Srinagar–Jammu National Highway, resulted in the extensive destruction of a CRPF barrack situated inside the premises.Upon receiving the alert, the Fire and Emergency Services department mobilized immediately, deploying multiple fire tenders to the site to combat the escalating flames.

Emergency responders are currently working to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the massive grain storage units and other nearby infrastructure. The operation is being supported by personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the CRPF, and various security agencies, who have cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and facilitate smooth firefighting efforts.

While the CRPF barrack has been gutted, the exact cause of the fire and the full extent of the property damage or potential casualties have not yet been determined as the situation remains active.
