Martyr PSI Deepak Sharma Memorial Sports Tournament Concludes at DPL Udhampur
UDHAMPUR, April 03, 2026 — The Udhampur Police successfully concluded the five-day Martyr PSI Deepak Sharma Memorial Sports Tournament today at the District Police Lines (DPL).
Organized under the Civic Action Programme, the event began on March 30, 2026, as a tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Deepak Sharma, who laid down his life in the line of duty while fighting criminals.
The closing ceremony was honored by the presence of DIG U-R Range, Sarah Rizvi, and SSP Udhampur Amod Ashok Nagpure,alongside the family members of the fallen hero.
Senior police officials, including the Additional SP and various Deputy SPs from across the district, joined the ceremony to witness the culmination of this significant community outreach initiative.
The tournament saw spirited participation from 310 athletes representing various clubs across Udhampur District, competing in disciplines such as cricket, badminton, kho-kho, tug of war, and volleyball under the guidance of 16 officials.
In a thrilling volleyball final, City Volleyball Club emerged victorious over Udhampur Volleyball Club to claim the top honors.
During the prize distribution, Sarah Rizvi paid a moving tribute to the martyr, noting that his courage serves as a beacon for the youth, while the SSP urged the younger generation to embrace sports for a disciplined, drug-free life.
By blending athletic competition with a solemn remembrance of national service, the tournament effectively honored the memory of the brave officer while fostering a strong bond between the police and the local community.
