Marriage Assistance Scheme: Responsive Governance Provides Relief to Distressed Widow in Bhaderwah
BHADERWAH, DECEMBER 24: In a powerful display of compassionate and responsive governance, the Social Welfare Department provided immediate financial hope to a distressed widow during the “Prashasan Gaon ki Our” campaign at Udrana-Bhaderwah.
The intervention began when an elderly resident brought the plight of a 65-year-old widow to the attention of Tehsil Social Welfare Officer (TSWO) Bhaderwah, Shahnawaz Ahmad. The widow, struggling with mental distress and severe financial hardship following the death of her husband, Subhash Rathore, was unable to attend the camp due to her deteriorating health.
Living on a meager widow pension and small earnings from her daughter’s tuitions, the family faced a crisis as they were unable to afford the marriage expenses for her two daughters, aged 29 and 26, who are already engaged.
Demonstrating proactive leadership, the TSWO visited the widow’s residence to personally assess the situation. Recognizing their BPL (Below Poverty Line) status, he assured the family of a financial grant of ₹50,000 for each daughter under the Marriage Assistance Scheme, totaling ₹1 lakh in support.
Beyond the financial promise, the department offered full assistance for the online documentation process to ensure the family faces no further hurdles. The widow and her daughter, Shiveti Rathore, expressed profound gratitude for the empathetic approach of the administration, noting that this support would finally allow them to solemnize the marriages in the coming months.
The Social Welfare Department has reaffirmed its commitment, under the guidance of the District Development Commissioner, to intensify such outreach programs so that no eligible beneficiary in remote areas remains deprived of government welfare.
