JAMMU, Jan 23, 2026 — In a major breakthrough ahead of Republic Day celebrations, security forces neutralized a high-ranking Pakistani terrorist in the Billawar area of Kathua district on Friday.
The successful elimination of the insurgent, identified as a member of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit, marks a significant victory for the region’s counter-terrorism grid during a period of heightened alert across Jammu and Kashmir.
The operation was executed with surgical precision by a specialized small team of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), working in close coordination with the Indian Army and the CRPF.
Confirming the development on X (formerly Twitter), IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti lauded the bravery of the personnel involved and stated that a Pakistani Jaish terrorist has been neutralised by a small JKP team in a joint operation with the Army and CRPF in the general area of Billawar, Kathua district.
This proactive strike has effectively thwarted potential attempts by Pakistan-based modules to disrupt the upcoming national celebrations, reinforcing the “zero-tolerance” policy against cross-border terrorism.
While the area remains under a tight security blanket, officials stated that the neutralisation of this foreign operative is a massive boost to security morale.
A search operation is currently ongoing in the general area of Billawar to ensure no further threats remain. Further details regarding the identity of the terrorist and recovered weaponry are currently awaited as the investigation continues.
