Major Drug Bust in Tripura: Security Forces Destroy Marijuana Worth ₹27 Crore
New Delhi January 30 , 2026 :- In a massive blow to the illegal narcotics trade in Northeast India, Assam Rifles, operating under the Spear Corps, successfully spearheaded a joint operation to eradicate large-scale marijuana cultivation in Tripura. Working in seamless coordination with the Sepahijala District Police, the Forest Department, the Border Security Force (BSF), and the Tripura State Rifles (TSR), security forces targeted the remote areas of Kamalnagar and Bijoynagar. During the crackdown, teams destroyed approximately 1,80,000 marijuana saplings, effectively dismantling a significant source of illicit drug production in the region.
The scale of this operation highlights the intensified efforts of the “Sentinels of the Northeast” to curb the drug menace. Officials have estimated the market value of the destroyed narcotics to be approximately ₹27 Crore. This successful multi-agency mission underscores the commitment of the Assam Rifles and local law enforcement to maintain a drug-free environment and disrupt the financial pipelines of illegal syndicates operating across the Tripura border.
