Major Cache of Arms and Ammunition Recovered Near Line of Control in Kupawara
SRINAGAR, January 28, 2026 — In a significant blow to cross-border terror logistics, security forces successfully recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition hidden in the dense forest areas of Kupwara district on Wednesday.
The recovery operation was executed following specific intelligence inputs regarding a weapon dump located near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Rati Tari forest area of Karnah tehsil. During the intensive search and cordon operation, joint teams unearthed a hidden stockpile consisting of four pistols, seven magazines, three AK-series magazines, and 308 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.
Officials stated that these munitions were likely dumped by terrorists for future infiltration attempts or local disruptive activities, and the timely discovery has effectively thwarted potential threats in the region.
The operation highlights the heightened vigilance maintained by security agencies along the border corridors to prevent the smuggling of war-like stores into the Union Territory.
While no arrests were made at the immediate site of the recovery, the area has been cordoned off for further sanitization to ensure no other concealed dumps remain in the vicinity. This successful seizure is part of an ongoing intensified surveillance strategy aimed at dismantling the underground support network of terror groups operating across the LoC.
Local authorities have registered a case and initiated a full-scale investigation to trace the origin of the consignment and identify the intended recipients of the lethal hardware.
