IMPHAL, Feb 10, 2026 — In a major blow to insurgent activities in the region, the Assam Rifles, in a seamless joint operation with the Manipur Police, successfully recovered a massive cache of high-grade weaponry and explosives over a 48-hour period.
The intelligence-led operations, conducted across the Kakching and Imphal East districts, highlight the intensified crackdown on illegal arms to ensure lasting peace and security within the state.The first breakthrough occurred on February 8 in the Pallel area of Kakching District.
Utilizing advanced technology including surveillance drones, metal detectors, and a specialized Dog Squad, security forces uncovered a concealed hideout. The seizure included one AK-47 rifle, a pistol, two improvised mortars, a single-barrel rifle, and a staggering 14 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Additionally, two live mortar bombs and various rounds of ammunition were found. Due to the high risk involved, the IEDs were safely destroyed on-site by experts to prevent any collateral damage.The momentum continued into February 9, as a second coordinated strike was launched in Nongdam, located in the Imphal East District.
This search led to the recovery of two more single-barrel rifles, a .303 rifle, and four 9mm pistols equipped with magazines, alongside three No. 36 hand grenades. All the seized lethal hardware has been handed over to the Manipur Police for further legal processing.
