Lt Gen Ram Chander Tiwari Retires: Eastern Command Chief Relinquishes Charge After Four Decades of Distinguished Service

KOLKATA, March 31, 2026 — Marking the end of an illustrious military career spanning forty years, Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, officially relinquished his appointment as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Eastern Command today.

On the occasion of his superannuation, the Army Commander paid a solemn tribute to fallen heroes at the Vijay Smarak, reflecting on a lifetime of dedicated service to the nation before being accorded a traditional ceremonial Guard of Honour at Vijay Durg.

Throughout his four decades in uniform, Lt Gen Tiwari held numerous prestigious command and staff appointments, leaving a lasting legacy of operational excellence and strategic leadership.

In his final address, the outgoing commander expressed deep gratitude and conveyed his heartfelt best wishes to all ranks of the Eastern Command and their families, honoring the collective sacrifices and commitment of the personnel under his leadership.
