Lt Gen Neeraj Shukla Visits Forward Areas, Honors Fallen Heroes at Tawang War Memorial
TAWANG, ARUNACHAL PRADESH — Marking his maiden visit to forward operational areas since assuming command of the elite Gajraj Corps, Lieutenant General Neeraj Shukla, General Officer Commanding (GOC), carried out a series of high-level engagements focused on military heritage and civil-military synergy.
The GOC began his tour by paying solemn tribute to the nation’s “Bravehearts” at the Nyukmadung, Jaswantgarh, and Tawang War Memorials. During these visits, he laid wreaths to honor the supreme sacrifice and gallantry of Indian soldiers who defended the borders in these high-altitude sectors, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to upholding the legacy of its fallen heroes.
Beyond the military ceremonies, Lt Gen Shukla emphasized the deep historical and cultural roots of the region by visiting the Bob Khathing Museum. There, he paid homage to the legendary Major Ralengnao “Bob” Khathing, the iconic figure instrumental in bringing Tawang under Indian administration.
To further strengthen the “Army-Civilian” bond, the GOC held interactive sessions with the Gaon Burahs (village elders) and the Ex-Servicemen (ESM) Head of Jang.
He expressed his sincere appreciation for the local community’s steadfast support and their enduring connection with the Armed Forces, highlighting that the strength of the border regions lies in the seamless relationship between the military and the local populace.
