Literary Club GCW Udhampur Organizes Adult Literacy Program
UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 19,2025: Government College for Women (GCW)Udhampur today organized an inter house painting competition to upholdthe new centrally sponsored scheme on ‘’new India literacy programme’’[NILP] in the college campus.
The event was organized by the literary committee and Shikshit Bharat Club GCW Udhampur to popularize the policy of Adult Literacy Programme Launched by the Government of India.The event started with the formal welcome of worthy principal of the college, Dr. Nalini Pathania by convener Literary Committee Dr.Geetanjli Rajput HOD English and convener Shikshit Bharat Club, Prof.Yash Paul HOD History by presenting a floral token of respect.
In her opening remarks worthy principal of the college appealed the students and staff that the New India Literacy programme has been approved by the government of India with a financial outlay of Rs.1037.90 crore for implementation during the Financial year 202-23to 2026-27, in alignment with the recommendation of National Education Policy [NEP 2020]. The scheme is targeted at all Non-Literates of age 15 years and above.While speaking on this occasion Dr. Geetanjli Rajput Convener Literary Committee highlighted the role of Government, Educational Institutions, Agencies, NGO’s and other social agencies to help adults to improve their basic life skills such as Reading, writing and Numeracy.
A lecture on this occasion is also delivered by HOD Sociology Dr.Swati Dutt on ‘’ Role of Educated youth in spreading Adult Literacy’’In her lecture Dr. Swati Dutt highlighted that the aim of the schemeis to provide basic functional literacy, Critical life skills,Vocational skills, Basic education equivalency and continuingeducation for non-literates.
She also highlighted the role of youth and technology like DIKSHA portal and ULLAS Mobile App in spreading the scheme among masses.While speaking on the occasion convener Shikshit Bharat Club motivated the students to take active participation in spreading this message among the common masses and work on five key concepts like Phonemic,Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and comprehension. Dr. Kamal Deep Kour [A P English] Dr. Varun Sharma [HOD Philosophy] and Dr.Sushma Choudhary acted as judges in the event who were very fair andrational in their judgement.
The other members who graced this function were Dr. Mool Raj, Dr. Shivani Suri Verma, Dr. Om Parkash,Prof. Yash Kumar and Dr. Parvinder Kour.The formal vote of thanks on this occasion was presented by Prof.Varun Sharma HOD Philosophy. As many as 105 students Participated in the event, Where, Miss. Aditi Singh, Drishti Sharma and Pallvi Gupta were adjudged 1st ,2nd and 3rd respectively.
