LG Vinai Kumar Saxena Lays Foundation for Major Riverfront Park Projects in Kargil

KARGIL | 12 April 2026 :-In a significant boost to the urban landscape of Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena officially laid the foundation stone today for the development of two major recreational sites, Rgyal Khatoon Park and Sher Bagh Park.

Situated along the scenic banks of the Suru River in Kargil, these twin projects are being developed across six hectares of land with a total investment of ₹2.98 crore. Designed to enhance the aesthetic and environmental value of the region, the parks will be equipped with modern amenities including dedicated walking tracks, fountains, ornamental plantations, and essential public utilities such as kiosks, gazebos, and benches.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted that these developments are envisioned as vital “green and blue assets” for the district, leveraging the natural beauty of the riverfront to create a sustainable ecosystem.

Once completed, Rgyal Khatoon and Sher Bagh are expected to become premier recreational destinations, offering both the local residents of Kargil and visiting tourists a serene space for leisure.

This initiative marks a continued effort by the administration to improve public infrastructure and promote eco-tourism within the high-altitude region.
