LG Manoj Sinha Inaugurates 6th Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg: A Celebration of National Unity and Sporting Excellence

GULMARG, February 23, 2026 — Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha officially inaugurated the 6th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games today at the world-renowned ski resort of Gulmarg, describing the mega-event as a powerful catalyst for national unity and a celebration of India’s diverse sporting legacy.

Addressing a gathering of nearly 1,000 athletes and officials from across the country, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the Games have evolved from a simple competition into a national festival that transcends barriers of language, culture, and region. He observed that the slopes of Gulmarg serve as a “universal language” where an athlete’s identity is forged solely through skill, discipline, and grit.

Highlighting the transformative power of sports, he noted that the event pits skiers against nature itself, demanding extraordinary prowess in disciplines such as alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snowboarding, and ski mountaineering.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the region has seen a massive overhaul in sports infrastructure, including the establishment of 100 Khelo India Centres, providing a robust platform for youth to excel.

LG Sinha urged the participants to uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship, reminding them that true success is measured not just by medals, but by the resilience to rise after a fall and the ability to remain humble in triumph and dignified in defeat.

The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other senior officials, marking the beginning of a four-day pursuit of excellence that will conclude on February 26.
