Ladakh Weather Update: Snowfall and Rain Forecast Across Leh and Kargil Through March 20
LEH, LADAKH | March 11, 2026 – The Meteorological Centre Leh has issued a comprehensive weather update indicating that snowfall is currently affecting Zojila-Minamarg and most parts of Zanskar, while Leh and surrounding areas remain under heavy cloud cover.
For the remainder of today and tonight, intermittent rain and snow are expected to persist across many locations in the Kargil district, with scattered light precipitation likely in Leh.
This unsettled pattern will continue into March 12, which is forecasted to be cloudy and notably colder. Residents and travelers should expect a brief reprieve with fair to partly cloudy skies on March 13 and 14, before a windy and cloudy system moves in on March 15, bringing non-heavy but intermittent rain and snow to several areas.
The extended outlook suggests that after a short period of fair weather on March 16 and 17, another system will bring cloudy skies and scattered rain or snow from March 18 through March 20.
Due to these conditions, a high-risk advisory has been issued for major mountain passes, specifically Zojila and Shinkula, which are prone to closure on March 11, 12, and 15.
Authorities advise against outdoor activities during these peak windows of unfavorable weather and urge everyone to monitor official road and weather updates closely to ensure safety and travel convenience throughout the week.
