Ladakh Weather Update: Snow and Rain Predicted Across Leh and Kargil from March 15
LEH, LADAKH — March 14, 2026 — The Meteorological Centre Leh has issued a comprehensive weather forecast indicating a significant shift in conditions across the Ladakh region over the coming week.
While the current weather remains fair to partly cloudy as of 9:00 AM today, a transition toward generally cloudy skies is expected to begin by tomorrow evening. From March 15 to March 16, many parts of the Kargil-Zanskar region and scattered areas of Leh district are likely to experience rain and snow.
Although March 17 may see a brief reprieve with only isolated light precipitation, a second wave of cold and cloudy weather is forecasted from March 18 to March 20, bringing light to moderate rain and snow to scattered locations across the Union Territory.
In light of these developments, authorities have issued a yellow warning, noting that brief spells of heavy rain or snow at isolated places cannot be ruled out.
A high-risk advisory has been placed for the Zojila and Shinkula passes, with potential closures expected between the afternoons of March 15–16 and again from March 18–20.
Residents and travelers are strongly advised that conditions will be unfavorable for outdoor activities during these periods. The Met Centre urges everyone to stay updated on weather and road conditions to ensure safety and ease of travel during this volatile window.
