Ladakh Weather Update: Light Snowfall Continues as Met Centre Issues Avalanche and Travel Advisory
LEH, March 20, 2026 – The Meteorological (MET) Centre in Leh has reported light to moderate snowfall across many parts of Ladakh over the past 24 hours, maintaining cold and cloudy conditions throughout the region.
As of 11:00 AM today, scattered snowfall continues to impact various areas, keeping temperatures low. Forecasters predict that the region will remain predominantly cold and cloudy for the remainder of the day, with intermittent light snow expected in isolated pockets before a gradual improvement in weather conditions begins tomorrow.
Looking ahead, the weather is expected to stabilize significantly starting March 21, which will remain generally cloudy. From March 22 to March 25, residents can expect fair to partly cloudy skies, with no major rain or snow forecast until at least March 26.
However, authorities have issued a stern warning regarding the current accumulation, noting that recent precipitation may trigger avalanches and landslides.
Commuters and residents are urged to exercise extreme caution, especially when traveling through high-altitude passes or steep terrain.In terms of logistical impact, a high-risk advisory remains in place for the closure of the Zojila and Shinkula passes until at least March 21, with the possibility of the Shinkula closure being extended further.
Conversely, the risk of flight cancellations to Leh is currently categorized as low through March 26. Travelers and logistics operators are strongly advised to stay updated on the latest road and weather reports to ensure safety and convenience during this transitional weather phase.
