Ladakh Weather Update: Heavy Snow and Rain Alert for Kargil and Zanskar; Improved Conditions Expected from March 13

LEH, March 12, 2026 — The Meteorological (MeT) Centre Leh has issued a fresh advisory as most parts of the Kargil and Zanskar regions continue to experience steady snowfall and rain.

According to the latest update, the inclement weather is also affecting the Sham area of Leh district, with significant snow accumulation reported over mountain peaks and high-altitude passes.

Visuals shared by the Ladakh Police from Minamarg at 7:50 AM today confirm heavy snow on the ground, indicating challenging travel conditions across the region’s key transit points.

The forecast indicates that while precipitation is very likely to persist throughout the day at most locations in Kargil and Zanskar, a significant improvement in weather is on the horizon. Residents and travelers can expect a reprieve on March 13 and 14, as the sky is predicted to remain only partly cloudy with no further rain or snow expected.

Authorities advise caution for those navigating high-altitude passes until the current spell subsides.
