LEH, JANUARY 16, 2026: The Meteorological Centre Leh-Ladakh has issued a comprehensive weather outlook indicating a period of adverse conditions across the Union Territory from January 16 to 24.
Currently, snowfall is already being reported at Zojila Pass, with generally cloudy skies prevailing elsewhere. While the next few days will see intermittent light snow over higher peaks and passes, a significant shift is expected on January 20, with a 75% chance of light to moderate snowfall (4–5 inches) at scattered locations.
The most intense weather activity is forecasted between January 23 and 25, when moderate snowfall is likely across most of Ladakh, with heavy snowfall predicted for many parts of the Kargil and Zanskar regions. In light of these predictions, authorities have issued a travel advisory citing a high risk of temporary closure for Zojila Pass particularly on January 16 and during the window of January 20–26. Residents and travelers are urged to remain vigilant, as the combination of cold temperatures and heavy snow may disrupt essential services and road connectivity.
The MET department advises everyone to stay updated with the latest weather and road status reports to ensure safety and convenience during this week of expected climatic instability.
