Ladakh Weather Forecast: Clear Skies Precede Rain and Snow in Kargil-Zanskar Region

LEH, March 13, 2026 — The Meteorological (MET) Centre in Leh has released a comprehensive weather update for the Union Territory of Ladakh, indicating a shift from current clear conditions to intermittent precipitation over the coming week.

As of the morning of March 13, Ladakh is experiencing mainly clear skies, a trend expected to persist through March 14 with only occasional partial cloud cover. However, a significant change in the weather pattern is anticipated starting the evening of March 15.

Forecasters predict generally cloudy conditions through March 16, with rain and snow likely at scattered locations, particularly concentrated across the Kargil and Zanskar regions.

Following a brief period of fair weather on March 17, a second, more prolonged weather system is expected to impact the region between March 18 and March 20. This period will likely bring light to moderate rain and snow to scattered areas across the UT.

While no formal weather warnings have been issued, the MET Centre has released a critical travel advisory highlighting a moderate risk of closure for the Zojila and Shinkula passes during the peak precipitation windows of March 15–16 and March 18–20.

Travelers and residents are advised that conditions will remain unfavorable for outdoor activities during these dates and are urged to stay updated on road status and weather alerts to ensure safety and travel ease.
