Kupwara Traffic Enforcement Drive: 52 E-Challans Issued and 19 Licenses Recommended for Suspension
KUPWARA,— April 6, 2026:- In a decisive move to bolster road safety and ensure strict compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act, the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Kupwara conducted an intensive, day-long traffic enforcement drive across several key locations in the district today.
Spearheaded by Motor Vehicle Inspector Irfan Aziz and Assistant MVI Arun Kaw, under the direct supervision of ARTO Mohammad Shafait, the operation targeted habitual offenders to instill a culture of disciplined driving. Out of 160 vehicles inspected, the team issued 52 E-Challans, realizing a total fine of ₹92,600.
Furthermore, 19 driving licenses were recommended for immediate suspension, and several vehicles were seized on the spot, signaling a zero-tolerance policy toward reckless behavior that endangers public safety.
The crackdown focused on critical safety violations, including the absence of helmets for two-wheeler riders, failure to wear seat belts, and the operation of vehicles without High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) or functional Speed Limiting Devices (SLD).
The enforcement teams also penalized motorists for using illegal pressure horns that contribute to noise pollution, as well as passenger and commercial vehicles found to be overloading beyond permissible limits.
ARTO Kupwara has issued a stern warning to all transporters and motorists, emphasizing that these unannounced, high-intensity drives will become a regular feature across all routes in the district.
Authorities have advised the public to keep vehicular documentation updated and strictly adhere to safety protocols to avoid heavy penalties and permanent loss of driving privileges.
