Kupwara Police Crack Down on Drug Trafficking: Illegal Assets Frozen Under NDPS Act

KUPWARA, FEBRUARY 06, 2026 — In a major move to dismantle the financial network of drug peddlers, the Kupwara Police has frozen illegally acquired assets linked to a high-profile narcotics case.

The action stems from FIR No. 186/2025, registered under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. During the course of the investigation, authorities recovered a heroin-like substance along with ₹4,93,100 in cash, which is suspected to be the direct proceeds of illicit drug trafficking.

This crackdown is part of an intensified district-wide campaign aimed at curbing the rising drug menace by targeting the economic foundations of traffickers.

Evidence gathered during the probe established a clear link between the accused and a wider network involved in the sale and distribution of narcotics. Consequently, a formal Freezing Order under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act was issued to ensure that the illegally acquired properties could not be transferred, sold, or disposed of.

All legal formalities were strictly followed during the seizure process, and the case has been referred to the competent authority for final confirmation. This latest action underscores the J&K Police’s “zero-tolerance” policy and their commitment to making the region drug-free through both arrests and financial deterrence.
