Kulgam DC Athar Aamir Khan Launches IPPI 2025: Over 87,000 Children Targeted in Pulse Polio Drive

KULGAM, DECEMBER 21, 2025 — Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, officially inaugurated the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) 2005 campaign today by administering life-saving vaccine drops to a newborn at District Hospital (DH) Kulgam.

This launch marks the beginning of a massive district-wide health initiative aimed at safeguarding the health of the youngest citizens and reinforcing India’s commitment to remaining polio-free. Following the administration of the drops, the DC conducted a comprehensive review of the logistical arrangements, emphasizing that achieving 100 percent vaccination coverage is a non-negotiable priority for the district administration.

To ensure no child is left behind, the health department has established 508 vaccination booths, including 12 strategically placed transit booths to cover mobile populations. Approximately 87,000 children under the age of five are scheduled to receive the oral polio vaccine during this phase.

DC Athar Aamir Khan issued a call to action for the general public, urging parents to cooperate fully with health workers during both the booth-based sessions and the subsequent door-to-door vaccination drive starting tomorrow. He directed concerned officers to maintain strict supervision over the availability of logistics and the smooth functioning of all centers to ensure the campaign’s total success.

The high-profile launch was attended by several key officials, including Additional Deputy Commissioner Viqar Ahmed Giri, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Showkat Ahmad, and Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr. Syed Masood, alongside the District Immunization Officer (DIO) and Deputy CMO. Their presence underscored the collaborative effort required to maintain the district’s high immunization standards.

The administration has confirmed that the campaign will transition into an intensive house-to-house outreach program over the coming days to capture any children who may have missed the initial booth-based drive.
