KISHTWAR, January 19, 2026: In a major breakthrough under the ongoing Operation Trashi-I, security forces successfully dismantled a sophisticated underground hideout belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in the Singhpora area of Chhatroo on Monday.
The operation, launched following precise intelligence inputs, uncovered a cleverly concealed bunker featuring multiple entry and exit points. Designed to house more than four terrorists at a time, the hideout was fully stocked with logistics including cooking gas, desi ghee, cereals, and blankets, suggesting its use as a long-term base for militant activities.
The discovery follows a fierce encounter that began yesterday, during which Havildar Gajendra Singh made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Five other personnel were injured in the intense firefight as they closed in on the terror module.
Currently, a massive joint search operation involving the Indian Army, Police, and paramilitary forces is underway. The rugged terrain is being combed using advanced technology, including high-resolution drones and sniffer dogs, to track down the fleeing militants who are believed to be part of the same group that targeted security forces in Kathua last week.
This latest success comes amid a heightened security blanket across Jammu and Kashmir as Republic Day approaches.
Just days prior, forces had busted three other JeM hideouts in the Kathua district, recovering specialized military equipment like M4 cartridges alongside survival supplies.
Authorities have intensified area domination and surveillance efforts across the Jammu region to neutralize any remaining threats and ensure the safety of the public during the upcoming national celebrations.
