Kishtwar Fire Outbreak: Municipal Council Office and Two Homes Destroyed in Midnight Blaze

KISHTWAR, JAMMU & KASHMIR — March 11, 2026: A devastating fire broke out at midnight in the heart of Kishtwar town, resulting in the total destruction of a single-storey Municipal Council office and two adjacent residential properties.

According to a spokesperson from the Fire and Emergency Services Department, the inferno originated within the municipal building before rapidly spreading to the neighboring homes in the densely populated neighborhood.

In a race against time, three fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene, where emergency personnel engaged in a strenuous multi-hour battle to contain the flames and prevent further spread to the tightly packed urban area.

While the fire was eventually brought under control, officials confirmed that all three structures sustained extensive structural damage, leaving the affected families displaced and the local administrative hub in ruins.

Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have officially taken cognizance of the incident and have initiated a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze, exploring all possibilities from electrical short circuits to other potential triggers.

Local authorities are currently assessing the total financial loss and coordinating with the district administration to provide relief to the impacted residents.
