Jammu, January 8: Security forces have intensified their efforts to track down terrorists hiding in the dense forests of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, resuming a high-stakes search operation early Thursday morning.
The joint operation, involving the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the J&K Police and other security agencies, was initially launched on Wednesday evening in Kahog village, Billawar, following intelligence regarding militant presence.
An encounter broke out during the initial cordon, resulting in a minor injury to one security official. After maintaining a tight night-long perimeter to prevent any escape, additional reinforcements were deployed to the Dhanu Parole-Kamadh nallah area to bolster the sweep.
To ensure the hiding terrorists are pinned down within the challenging terrain, authorities have integrated aerial surveillance alongside ground troops to navigate the thick forest cover.
A senior security official confirmed that the area remains under a strict cordon as the joint teams move deeper into the woodland. The operation remains active as forces work to neutralize the threat and secure the region, following a series of recent security challenges in the Jammu division.
