KATHUA, JANUARY 13, 2026 — Under the leadership of SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma-IPS, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully cracked a complex “blind” hit-and-run case within 48 hours of its occurrence.
The investigation began on January 10, after Police Post (PP) Nagri responded to an accident report at Nagri Bridge involving a motorcycle. While one injured individual, Kewal Singh, was rescued at the scene, eyewitnesses reported that the driver of an auto load carrier had struck the bike and fled with the second victim, Arjun Kumar, a resident of Mirpur Jaggo.
Crucially, the driver failed to admit the victim to any medical facility, sparking an intensive search operation for the missing man and the suspect vehicle.Following the registration of FIR No. 21/2026 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police teams launched a multi-directional search.
The case took a tragic turn on the morning of January 12 when the body of Arjun Kumar was discovered near a nursery in Bamarwah, Rajbagh.
Utilizing a combination of CCTV footage analysis, technical surveillance, and human intelligence, the police team—led by PSI Ravinder Thakur under the guidance of Addl. SP Rahul Charak and DySP Hqrs Ravinder Singh—successfully identified and apprehended the suspect. The accused, also named Arjun Kumar, son of Krishan Chand and a resident of Chak Desa, Marheen, was taken into custody shortly after the recovery of the body.
The prompt resolution of the case has been lauded as a testament to the efficiency of the Kathua Police and their commitment to justice. After a formal post-mortem examination, the deceased’s remains were handed over to his grieving family.
The authorities have reiterated that the use of modern surveillance technology and rapid inter-agency coordination were pivotal in tracing the accused and bringing closure to a case that initially had very few leads.
