Kathua Police Arrest Two Drug Peddlers, Seize Heroin in Major Anti-Narcotics Drive

KATHUA, February 1, 2026 — As part of an intensified crackdown on the drug trade, the Kathua Police have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered approximately 12.10 grams of a heroin-like substance, commonly known as “Chitta.”

The operations, conducted under the supervision of SSP Mohita Sharma, took place across the jurisdictional areas of the Kathua and Billawar police stations. In the first operation at Kukey Chak, a police team led by Inspector Ashish Sharma, under the guidance of Additional SP Rahul Charak and DySP Headquarters Ravinder Singh, apprehended Jasbir Singh of Chak Drab Khan.

Upon searching the suspect, officers recovered 7.23 grams of heroin, leading to his immediate arrest and the registration of FIR No. 63/2026 under the NDPS Act.In a separate action near the Surara link road in Malti, a team led by Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq, under the direction of SP Ops Upper Kathua Amir Iqbal and SDPO Billawar Neeraj Padyar, intercepted Pardeep Singh of Ramkot.

A search of the individual yielded 4.87 grams of a heroin-like substance. Consequently, FIR No. 14/2026 was registered at the Billawar Police Station. Authorities are currently conducting further investigations into both cases to dismantle the supply chains and identify the forward and backward linkages involved in the local drug trade.

The Kathua District Police have reiterated their appeal to the public to share information regarding illicit activities, assuring that the identity of informants will remain strictly confidential.
