Kathua Honors Braveheart Captain Sunil Choudhary on His Death Anniversary

KATHUA, JANUARY 27, 2026 — In a poignant display of national pride, the residents and administration of Kathua gathered today at Captain Sunil Choudhary Chowk to pay solemn tributes to the “son of the soil” on his death anniversary.

The ceremony was attended by Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kathua, Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma, and SSP Mohita Sharma, alongside senior Army officers and ex-servicemen. Floral tributes were laid to honor the supreme sacrifice of Captain Sunil Choudhary, who attained martyrdom on January 27, 2008, during a high-stakes encounter with militants in Assam.

The event resonated with military honors as Army personnel paid rich tributes, underscoring the enduring legacy of the fallen hero.Reflecting on his son’s bravery, Colonel (Retd) P.L. Choudhary shared a moving account of the Captain’s dedication to the nation, noting that his sacrifice serves as a perennial source of inspiration for the youth.

District officials, including the MLA and Deputy Commissioner, described Kathua as a “land of warriors” and emphasized that the valor of martyrs like Captain Choudhary is instrumental in maintaining the unity and integrity of India.
