Kathua District Celebrates Women’s Week with Grand Walkathon at Iconic Atal Setu Bridge

KATHUA, March 07: As a highlight of the ongoing Women’s Week celebrations organized by the District Administration Kathua from March 02 to 08, a massive walkathon was held today at the famous Atal Setu Bridge in Basohli to champion women’s empowerment and physical fitness.

Flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Basohli, Pankaj Bagotra, the event drew significant participation from local women, civil society members, and approximately 90 girl students representing five schools within the Basohli Zone.

Starting from the Jammu and Kashmir side of the bridge, the participants marched across toward Punjab and back into Basohli town, spreading vital awareness regarding women’s health, leadership, and active community involvement.The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Tehsildar Basohli Sagar Vishav Karma and BDO Rajesh Kumar, and was executed under the supervision of CDPO Basohli Rakesh Kumar, who acted as the Nodal Officer.

During the proceedings, ADC Bagotra emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for strengthening the message of gender equality and encouraging girls to remain confident and health-conscious.

This walkathon is part of a broader series of district-wide activities aimed at promoting nutrition, empowerment, and the increased participation of women in all spheres of public life.
