Kathua Border Safety: DC Rajesh Sharma Sets Deadline for Completion of 802 Bunkers

KATHUA, January 10, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma spearheaded a high-level review meeting today to accelerate the final stages of bunker construction in the border regions of Kathua.

Highlighting the administration’s commitment to the safety of border residents, Sharma evaluated the current status of the project, which involves a total of 802 bunkers, comprising 717 individual and 85 community structures. During the session, it was revealed that 796 units have already been completed and handed over to the community, leaving only six structures—one community and five individual bunkers—currently under execution.

To ensure no resident is left vulnerable, DC Sharma issued a strict directive to executing agencies to complete all remaining work by the end of January 2026. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward avoidable delays, noting that the security of those living near the border remains a paramount priority.

Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the XEN REW to settle all outstanding financial liabilities promptly to prevent resource-related bottlenecks. The meeting, which included key officials such as ADC Vishavjeet Singh and CPO Ranjit Thakur, concluded with a call for enhanced field-level coordination and rigorous quality monitoring to meet the fast-approaching deadline.
