Kashmir Weather Alert: Moderate Rains and Heavy Snowfall Forecast for Next 48 Hours

SRINAGAR, March 18, 2026 — Residents across Jammu and Kashmir are bracing for a significant shift in weather as the Kashmir Weather Forecast predicts a 48-hour spell of moderate to heavy precipitation starting today.

According to the latest update, moderate rains are expected to lash the plains of the Jammu and Kashmir regions, including a steady downpour over Srinagar city. This wet spell is being driven by a Western Disturbance that is likely to bring much-needed moisture to the valley but will also result in a sharp decline in day temperatures across most locations over the next two days.

In the higher altitudes, the weather conditions are expected to be more intense. While the middle reaches are likely to experience light to moderate snowfall, the higher reaches are on alert for moderate to heavy snow accumulation during this period.

Travelers and residents in mountainous areas are advised to exercise caution as the sudden drop in temperature and heavy snowfall could impact visibility and road conditions on key highways.

The cooling effect of the rain and snow will bring a late-winter chill back to the region, providing a stark contrast to the typical onset of spring. The weather office has highlighted that these “good rain showers” will be widespread, covering the majority of the Kashmir plains.

As the mercury is set to drop significantly, authorities are urging the public to prepare for cold conditions and stay updated on local advisories.

This 48-hour window of unstable weather is expected to gradually stabilize toward the weekend, but for now, the priority remains monitoring the heavy snowfall in the alpine zones and ensuring the safety of those commuting through high-altitude passes.
