Kashmir Valley Mobile Data and Telecom Services Suspended

SRINAGAR, March 02, 2026 — The Government of Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has officially confirmed the temporary suspension and throttling of telecommunication services across the entire Kashmir Valley.

Acting under the Temporary Suspension of Telecommunication Service Rules, 2024, and the Telecommunication Act, 2023, Principal Secretary Chandraker Bharti issued the order following reports from the IGP, Kashmir Zone, regarding potential threats to public order.

The directive was prompted by apprehensions that the continuation of full services could disturb security and peace in light of the death of Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei of Iran.

According to the official order, all Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have been instructed to reduce prepaid mobile data services from high-speed (4G/3G) to 2G levels, capped at 128Kbps.

Additionally, the order mandates the complete shutdown of prepaid mobile services, including voice and SMS, effective from 09:00 hours on March 1, 2026, until 20:00 hours on March 4, 2026. The administration stated that these measures are an absolute necessity to maintain the sovereignty and integrity of the State and to ensure the continued safety of the public during this period.
