Srinagar, January 23, 2026: A remarkably intense and rapid snowstorm has struck the Kashmir Valley, depositing massive amounts of snow within a condensed 15-hour window and marking one of the season’s most aggressive weather events.
The Pir Panjal range and its surrounding areas faced the brunt of the storm, with the plains of Shopian district recording between 1.5 and 3 feet of snow, while its higher reaches saw extraordinary accumulations of up to five feet.
This swift and heavy precipitation also severely impacted parts of Budgam, Pulwama, Kulgam, Kupwara, and Baramulla districts, where higher elevations reported snow depths ranging from 2 to 5 feet in the same short duration.
