Kashmir Shatters February Heat Records: Unprecedented Warmth Grips Region as Temperatures Soar 11°C Above Normal

SRINAGAR, February 23, 2026 — In an extraordinary climatic anomaly, the Kashmir Valley is experiencing “April-like” temperatures in mid-winter as multiple weather stations shattered long-standing heat records today.

According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, the summer capital Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 21.0°C, a staggering 10.0°C above the seasonal normal, while Qazigund hit a peak of 21.2°C, marking a massive 11.1°C deviation from average.

High-altitude stations also felt the surge, with Gulmarg recording 11.2°C and Pahalgam reaching 17.3°C, effectively melting the winter chill across the region’s famous ski slopes and meadows. The Jammu region mirrored this warming trend as both Jammu and Katra touched 25.0°C, while the Ladakh region saw Nubra Valley climb to 11.1°C.

This record-breaking spell, attributed to a prolonged dry period and the absence of Western Disturbances, has sparked concerns among agricultural experts regarding early blooming and the rapid depletion of the region’s vital snow-pack.
